Dunure Beach
Explore Dunure Beach: rugged coastline, historic castle ruins, and charming village atmosphere, perfect for scenic explorations and cultural discovery.
Stevenston Beach is a two-mile sandy beach backed by a sea wall and dunes, between Saltcoats and Irvine. The Portland Glass Company worked at Ardeer from the 1920s, and Ayrshire's old glass industry is the source of the 'colourful nuggets' collectors find here. The dunes are a local nature reserve, so stay off them.
Industrial glass from the former Ardeer glassworks and drift from Irvine harbour. Search the strandline and shingle rather than the dry sand; iron slag on the beach can look like glass.
