Community rules

OceanFinds is a friendly place for sea glass hunters. These rules keep it that way.

Last updated 2 November 2026

These rules apply to everything people share on OceanFinds: beach reviews, photos, profiles and posts. By signing in or posting, you agree to them.

Be kind and be honest

  • Be respectful to other hunters, even when you disagree.
  • Only share your own experiences, and only post photos you took yourself.
  • Reviews must be about your own visit. No fake reviews, reviews of places you haven’t been, or reviews you were paid or rewarded for.
  • Keep it about sea glass, beachcombing and the coast.

Look after the beaches and each other

  • Only take what the law and local rules allow. Leave pebbles, sand, shells, fossils and anything protected where you found it, and respect beaches where collecting isn’t allowed.
  • Don’t share tips that put people at risk, like ignoring tides, closed areas or cliff warnings.
  • Don’t post private addresses or anything that helps someone find another person.

Not allowed

  • Abuse, harassment, threats, hate speech or discrimination.
  • Anything illegal, sexual, violent or harmful, and anything that sexualises or endangers children.
  • Spam, adverts, links to sell things, or pretending to be someone else.
  • Other people’s photos or personal information without their permission.
  • Photos where someone else is clearly identifiable and hasn’t agreed to be shown.

How we moderate

Reviews and photos are checked by us before they appear. Forum posts appear straight away, except a new member’s first post, which we check first. We remove anything that breaks these rules, and we may suspend or delete accounts that break them, especially repeatedly or seriously.

Reporting something

If you see something that breaks these rules, use the Report link next to it, or contact us with a link and a short explanation. We aim to look at every report within a few days, and sooner for anything harmful. If we think something is illegal, we’ll remove it and may report it to the relevant authorities.

If your post was removed, or you reported something and disagree with what we did, get in touch and we’ll take another look, normally within 14 days. You can also complain about anything else to do with how we moderate the site the same way. See our terms of use for more.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. By sharing it on OceanFinds, you give us permission to show it on the site (for example on beach pages, your profile and the map), including after you delete your account, when it will show as from a “Former member”. If you want something of yours removed, delete it or contact us.
