Towan Beach

Newquay, Cornwall · TR7 1EA

Newquay's central harbour-side beach, where rock pools around the Island House turn up large pieces of sea glass.

About Towan Beach

Towan is Newquay's town beach, sheltered by the harbour and overlooked by the Island House on its rock with a suspension bridge. Sea glass hunters search here regularly, and at low tide you can walk along to Great Western Beach.

Sea glass at Towan Beach

Large pieces and rare sea glass 'pebbles', especially around the rock pools and the Island House. Start at the rock pools on an ebbing tide.

Visiting Towan Beach

Safety
Check the tide times before you go and head out on a falling tide, so you're never cut off. Keep away from the bottom of cliffs, wear sturdy shoes on rocks, and only take sea glass and other man-made rubbish: pebbles, sand and shells should stay on the beach.
