The Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1964, boasts diverse landscapes, from sandy beaches and rocky cliffs to grassy dunes. It's perfect for various activities like sea kayaking, bird watching, and walking, offering stunning views towards Scotland and the Isle of Man. Allonby Beach, notable for its mix of sand and pebbles, provides gentle waters ideal for paddling. Stretching over 115 square kilometers from Rockcliffe to Maryport, the Solway Coast aims to preserve its exquisite scenery.

Visiting Allonby Beach

Getting there

To reach Allonby, if you're coming from the south, take the M6 to Carlisle and then follow the A595 towards Workington, turning off towards Allonby. From the north, take the A596 to Maryport, then switch to the B5300, which leads directly to Allonby. From here, the beach is just a short walk away.

Parking

Allonby Car Park is free to use and open 24 hours. Central and just a 5 min walk to the beach.

Toilets

Unsure, we didn't stumble across any public toilets. Although there are plenty of cafes, retail places where you could go.

Safety

Check the tide times before you go and head out on a falling tide, so you're never cut off. Keep away from the bottom of cliffs, wear sturdy shoes on rocks, and only take sea glass and other man-made rubbish: pebbles, sand and shells should stay on the beach.
